I’m just going to be real for a second: this post is just as much of a reminder to myself as it is to you. I have the tendency to overanalyze and stress out about things that are completely out of my control – that’s really no way to live! So let’s do this together, people. Take a collective breath and appreciate that sometimes, shit happens.
“Que Sera, Sera. Whatever will be, will be.”
[Amen to that, sister.] If you’re like me, you definitely spend way too much time thinking about things that are out of your control. [When you should be thinking about the consequences of eating an entire pizza by yourself. #noshame]
So here’s a good way to approach a situation that is causing you stress: Can you change the situation? Can you avoid it? If you’ve answered no to either of these questions, then the next step is to accept it. If you can’t control the situation, the only thing that is left to do is change the way you think about it. So take a siesta, go for a run, pray, inhale an entire pizza by yourself, whatever you need to do. Then work on being more positive, accepting, and open to the situation – whatever will be, will be!
“You can’t always get what you want.. But if you try sometimes.. you just might find.. you get what you need.”
The Rolling Stones really got it right when they penned these lyrics – you might not always get what you want, but sometimes life hands you what you need. You can sit here and plan your life out as far as you want.. 5 years? 10 years? Whatever. That doesn’t mean your life is going to unfold exactly how you planned it and that is completely okay. Sometimes life knows what you need more than you do.
So why should you be happy that shit happens? Well, the way I look at it is this: Life is beautiful because good and bad things happen – it’s part of being alive! So it’s important to never approach a situation thinking how unfortunate it is that insert-circumstance-here has happened to you. If you find yourself in a craptastic situation, look at it as an opportunity to grow, learn, evolve.. You’ll be a stronger and greater individual because of it!
Which brings me to my next point: if something shitty has been thrown your way, there’s probably a reason for it. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad individual or you somehow deserve what’s happening, it simply means that you need to look at the bigger picture. A bad situation may have a wonderful conclusion, making it all worthwhile – hence, life gave you what you needed as opposed to what you wanted. [BOOM, conclusion.]
If you’re going through a hard time right now, I really feel for you and encourage you to keep your chin up, buttercup! If you’re looking for a way to feel better, take a look at my earlier post of 5 Ways You Can Be Kind Right Now – spreading a little love can do wonders for making you feel better!
